  1. About Be You

Evaluation and research

Be You is the national mental health in education initiative supporting mentally healthy learning communities in Australia. Delivered by Beyond Blue, in collaboration with Early Childhood Australia and headspace, Be You is evidence-informed and regularly conducts independent surveys and evaluations to evaluate and improve its work.

National Mental Health in Education Research

Each year an independent agency conducts the National Mental Health in Education Research on behalf of Be You.

This survey goes out to educators in Australian early learning services and schools, and seeks to understand educator attitudes to mental health in education and mental health literacy. The survey also asks educators about their awareness of and engagement with Be You.

The 2022 survey was conducted by Quantum Market Research:

Be You Evaluation by the Australian Council for Educational Research (ACER)

The Australian Council for Educational Research (ACER) has been commissioned by Beyond Blue to independently evaluate Be You for the period July 2021 to June 2023.

The evaluation estimates the impact of the Be You initiative on educators’ capacity to support child wellbeing and resilience. The evaluation also seeks to understand what’s working well and what can be improved.

The evaluation will be informed by surveys of Be You registered educators and pre-service educators, relevant Be You and national sources of data, and interviews and focus groups conducted with key Be You stakeholders.

  • Evaluation survey, interviews and focus groups

The Be You Evaluation survey for educators will be:

    • available for all registered educators, and participation is voluntary
    • available to complete in Term 4, 2022
    • sent to educators via an email link from ACER.

In the first half of 2023, ACER will also conduct Be You Evaluation interviews and focus groups with educators.

Opportunities for educators to participate in interviews and focus groups will be promoted through Education Voices, a national online network of educators informing the development of Be You mental health and wellbeing tools, services and resources.

  • Privacy

All information collected for the evaluation is anonymous and no individual or learning community will be identifiable in the evaluation report.

ACER researchers adhere to, and comply with, the Australian Information Privacy Act 1988 in accordance with the Australian Department of Education and Training privacy requirements for data stored and used in Australia.
