Building from evidence
Be You is grounded in the evidence-base relating to mental health promotion in education. It builds on the evolution of national initiatives like MindMatters, KidsMatter Primary, KidsMatter Early Childhood, and Response Ability. These programs laid the foundation for a consistent, whole-community approach to wellbeing in early learning services and schools.
Foundational research shows the critical role of education settings in supporting children’s and young people’s mental health, demonstrating:
- Mental health issues like anxiety and depression can emerge in early childhood
- Building the capacity of early learning services and schools improves outcomes for children and young people and the broader learning community.
