The Beyond Blue Be You Programs Directory is an online searchable database of mental health and wellbeing programs for learning communities that has been independently evaluated by the Murdoch Children’s Research Institute (MCRI) in collaboration with the Melbourne Graduate School of Education, University of Melbourne (MGSE).
Applications to be included on the Be You Programs Directory are to be completed online via Beyond Blue’s platform and solely by the Program Applicant (Applicant).
It is the responsibility of the Applicant to ensure all questions are answered and relevant documentation provided.
It is the responsibility of the Applicant to be able to demonstrate that their program genuinely meets the minimum entry requirements, before progressing to complete the application. The Applicant must submit all evaluation evidence relating to the program.
Once an application is submitted, it will be evaluated by MCRI and MGSE at the request of Beyond Blue.
At the conclusion of the evaluation, the Applicant will be provided with a “Program Report”. The Program Report will include an evidence rating and an implementation rating. Ratings are scored 1 to 4 on the following criteria:
Evidence ratings
- A rating of 1 (‘emerging’) means the program meets the minimum entry standard for research design and rigour and has at least one evaluation or research study demonstrating the effectiveness in improving child health outcomes.
- A rating of 2 (‘developing’) means the program has demonstrated research design of increasing rigour and a positive impact on mental health outcomes for children and young people. Studies generally have a pre-post design with no comparison group.
- A rating of 3 (‘promising’) is for programs with moderate evidence of a long-term positive impact through multiple rigorous evaluations. Research design generally reflects non-randomised controlled comparison.
- A rating of 4 (‘established’) is given to programs with extensive and strong evidence through rigorous design (such as a randomised controlled trial) and a positive impact through multiple rigorous evaluations.
Implementation ratings
- A rating of 1 (‘emerging’) means the program meets the minimum criteria for providing training and support, and for acceptability by participants and instructors.
- A rating of 2 (‘developing’) means the program meets some of the criteria for providing training and support, and for acceptability by participants and instructors.
- A rating of 3 (‘promising’) is for programs with moderate implementation support meeting most of the criteria for providing training and support, and for acceptability by participants and instructors.
- A rating of 4 (‘established’) is given to programs with well-established program implementation support meeting all the criteria for providing training and support, and acceptability (including multiple delivery options, training for instructors, ongoing support offered to instructors and participants and accompanying resources provided to participants).
The Program Report will also verify that the information provided about the program is substantiated by the research evidence submitted.
An Applicant will have 10 business days from receipt of the Program Report in which to raise queries about the evaluation, request a re-evaluation of the program, and/or provide further evidence to support their evaluation. Any additional information or query will be reviewed by MCRI or MGSE as part of their evaluation services.
If the Applicant has submitted a query or additional information within the 10 business days review period, MCRI or MGSE will evaluate this information prior to finalisation of the evaluation. A revised Program Report will be provided to the Applicant for review. If no queries or additional information are submitted within the subsequent 10 business days review period, MCRI or MGSE will finalise the Program Report on Beyond Blue’s platform.
Beyond Blue will undertake a content edit of the program information in preparation for listing on the Be You website. Beyond Blue will provide the Applicant with a summary of the program information that will appear in the Be You Programs Directory prior to inclusion. The Applicant will have 2 business days in which to submit corrections to Beyond Blue. If Beyond Blue assesses that the correction necessitates re-evaluation by MCRI or MGSE, the Applicant will be informed of this.
An Applicant who has had their program assessed and scored a rating of 1 or above for both evidence and implementation will have their program listed in the Be You Programs Directory.
A successful Applicant will be authorised to use the Be You logo and approved statement on their program website in accordance with the Be You Programs Directory promotional guidelines. Logo details and promotional guidelines will be provided to the Applicant once the program is listed in the Be You Programs Directory.
Acceptance of these Terms and Conditions is also confirmation of acceptance of the promotional guidelines and agreement to correctly use the Be You logo and approved statement.
Inclusion in the Be You Programs Directory does not imply endorsement of a program by Beyond Blue, Be You, MCRI or MGSE.
Programs should not be marketed or promoted in a way that implies approval or endorsement has been granted to them by Beyond Blue, Be You, MCRI or the University of Melbourne.
The logo and statement may not be used for commercial gain or as evidence of a partnership with Beyond Blue.
A breach of the promotional guidelines or the inappropriate use of the Be You logo and approved statement may result in the Program being removed from the Be You Programs Directory.
Once a program has been included in the Be You Programs Directory, the Applicant may request a re-evaluation of the program at 6-monthly intervals. A re-evaluation will only be considered if the Applicant can provide new studies that support the evidence and implementation of the program. To ask for a re-evaluation, email beyouprograms@beyondblue.org.au
