Aims
Raise Youth Mentoring Program is a research-led and evidence-based program that empowers young people to become more resilient, connected and hopeful for the future with the support of an adult mentor. Through the development of a trusting relationship with an adult mentor, young people experience positive change in areas of mental health support (help-seeking behaviour), social and emotional wellbeing, and school engagement. Mentors provide support, advice and skill-building for young people to increase help-seeking, goal-setting, resilience and hope.Program theory
The theories that underpin the development of the program are attachment theory, social learning theory, cognitive developmental theory and ecological systems theory. Every year, Raise Foundation evaluates its programs to understand the impact of mentoring on young people, mentors, schools, families and communities.Topics
The program curriculum is designed to support the developing relationship between mentor and student, and build skills in the areas of mental health support, social and emotional wellbeing and school engagement. The curriculum topics map to the Australian Student Wellbeing Framework and include identity, help-seeking, support, goal-setting, strengths, relationship skills, risk, reflection skills, resilience, future planning, connection with community and job-seeking skills.Cost
Program structure
Raise Foundation employs degree-qualified Program Counsellors for each of its programs. Program Counsellors bring a group of volunteer mentors into the school for an hour each week, at a consistent time, over 23 weeks. The Foundation matches students with a mentor and facilitate one-to-one mentoring, followed by supervision and support sessions for the volunteer mentors. The mentoring is conducted in school terms 2 and 3 and concludes with a graduation celebration.Instructor
