Aims

BRiTA Futures lays the foundation for ensuring that every child from a culturally and linguistically diverse background is given the chance to build upon, and extend, strengths in experiences associated with acculturation. It provides them with a unique opportunity to foster additional competencies needed to adapt to life in Australia.

Program theory

Berry's acculturation theory, cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT), Australian Student Wellbeing Framework, Australian National Curriculum Framework (ACARA), Australian Professional Standards for Teachers (AITSL).

Topics

The four main modules of the framework include resilience in our multicultural classroom, empowerment through my thoughts and behaviours, conflict resolution and social competencies, positive relationships with our families, friends and communities.

Cost

The program framework and all resources are free. There is a cost for annual face-to-face training (cost recovery).

Program structure

There are 4 separate modules. Classes can be held intensively over 5 days or conducted on a weekly basis completing a module per school term.

Training for teachers or prospective instructors is an in-person whole day workshop (8 hours), consisting of the framework theory and a practical component.
