    ​The 'Peaceful Kids' program is a Mindfulness and Positive Psychology based education and support program. The programs objective is to lessen anxiety and stress and increase resilience in children from Prep through to Year 12. This program helps children to build their emotional resilience so they are better equipped to deal with the day to day stresses that life brings them.

    Detailed description

    The program has been created to support all children who suffer from anxiety to develop the skills and practice to lessen the symptoms of anxiety and stress. The program helps children to build their emotional resilience so they are better equipped to deal with the day to day stresses that life brings them. It requires parental involvement and commitment to ensure strategies are supported at home. Children learn lifelong coping skills such as : - A range of Mindfulness Meditations - Positive psychology exercises - Techniques to lessen worrying - A range of practical and expressive coping strategies - Problem-solving strategies - Journaling and expressing worries - Facing challenges and fears step by step - Preventative strategies to help prevent stress build up - Being attuned to their own bodies and minds - Understanding and recognising their own feelings - Being in the flow and enjoying more of the present moment Children learn: - Basic theory on Mindfulness and how it affects the brain and lessens stress and anxiety. - The different ways to practice Mindfulness and integrate it into their lives. - Their feelings and how this relates to anxiety and stress levels. - Understanding stress and how it relates personally to them -Understanding triggers for stress and how to calm down when feeling stressed -About the physical symptoms of stress and anxiety and learn how to self regulate -Worrying and how it affects their happiness - Different types of thinking that increase anxiety or lessen anxiety - Creating a balanced lifestyle including lots of chill out time and being in the flow.

    Program structure & method delivery

    The program is delivered over 8 weeks and involves 1 x 1 hour sessions per week, covering a range of topics. - Sessions include learning a range of mindfulness strategies and meditations, effective coping strategies and positive psychology exercises. - Children learn a new meditation each week and then practice at home on a daily basis. ​ The program also includes a parent session for 1 hour. The program can be adapted to be run as whole class sessions over a term including daily mindfulness exercises for all children.The Peaceful Kids trained facilitator runs face to face sessions with a small group of 4 to 6 children. These sessions are 1 hour and are completed over 8 weeks. Sessions are held mostly at schools during school time but some groups are run by health professionals outside of school hours.

    Peaceful Kids is based on evidence based therapy and research from the Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction program (MBSR), Mindfulness-integrated Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (MiBCT), Positive Psychology and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy. ​

Georgina has many years of experience working in schools supporting children and parents to reach effective social and emotional outcomes. Georgina runs regular parent seminars in schools, school professional development days and is a national speaker for wellbeing events. Georgina has created the 'Peaceful Kids' Mindfulness and Positive Psychology program for schools and holds training across many states in Australia.
